Energy & Warmth

A deeply warming, nourishing drink that sits at the crossroads of Ayurvedic food wisdom and the simple pleasure of a good hot chocolate. Rich, creamy, and genuinely comforting β this is the drink for cold mornings, slow evenings, and any moment that calls for something grounding.
Why this recipe works
Raw cacao is one of the richest food sources of magnesium β a mineral commonly depleted in women experiencing chronic stress, poor sleep, and fatigue. It also contains theobromine, a gentle circulatory stimulant that supports focus and energy without the adrenal stress response of caffeine. Ceylon cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar, smoothing energy levels and reducing the mid-morning crash. Clove is one of Ayurveda's most warming spices β a powerful supporter of digestive fire (Agni) and circulation. Ghee, when used, provides butyrate which nourishes the gut lining directly. Together, these culinary ingredients make a drink that is genuinely restorative, not just comforting.
2 cups organic dairy milk or non-dairy milk of your choice
2β3 tablespoons raw cacao powder or carob powder
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
1 teaspoon ghee (optional)
ΒΌ teaspoon ground cinnamon (Ceylon cinnamon preferred)
Pinch of ground clove
1
Pour the milk into a small pot. Heat gently over a low flame, bringing it just under a boil. You are looking for steam and a gentle shimmer on the surface β do not boil.
2
Transfer the warm milk to a high-speed blender. Add the cacao or carob powder, maple syrup, ghee (if using), cinnamon, and clove.
3
Blend until smooth and creamy β approximately 20β30 seconds. The ghee will emulsify into the milk, creating a rich, velvety texture.
4
Pour into a warmed mug and enjoy immediately.
Adapt it to your needs
This recipe adapts beautifully to your individual health picture:
If you tend to run hot, feel reactive, or have inflammatory symptoms β swap cacao for carob powder. Carob is naturally cooling and gentler on digestion, without the stimulating compounds found in cacao.
If you tend to feel heavy, sluggish, or retain fluid β omit the ghee and choose a lighter oat or almond milk. The warming cinnamon and clove are still excellent for supporting digestion and circulation.
If you tend to feel cold, anxious, or scattered β enjoy the full recipe as written. The warming spices, grounding ghee, and rich cacao are deeply nourishing for this pattern.
